In the heart of the diverse district of Kreuzberg in Berlin, on the ground floor of an 1880s apartment building that was once home to a supermarket, we find the serene office of life and work partners Mar Vicens and Ask Anker Aistrup.
The architects established their award-winning studio mar plus ask in 2015 after teaching and working independently for offices in Denmark, Spain, and France. The strength of the studio lies in the origin of the founders, combining Scandinavian and Mediterranean aesthetics in their works that are always humble, but full of character—much like their own home and office space in Berlin.
Never expecting this was once a supermarket, the ground floor in the Glogauer Straße is now a minimalistic and tranquil sanctuary where Mar and Ask live and work. The couple truly transformed the space where once tired tiles and yellow faded wallpaper hang, adding new floors, ceilings, and walls to transform the space into their own. They divided the 180 squared meters ground floor in two: where the office space looks out on the street and the home, out to the courtyard.
Ask and Mar envisioned a quiet and sober place, a calm oasis of simple beauty to spark creativity. The whole space exudes serenity and warmth with its earth tone natural hues and use of refined materials. All the elements and details were thoughtfully selected, creating a space that makes use of raw materials while exuding a soft, radiant quality. A refined and peaceful space to welcome friends and family, work on projects, or simply enjoy the ease of everyday life.
