Behind a beautiful historic façade in the Nordhavn district of the bustling city of Copenhagen, lies The Audo, a multifunctional space combining a boutique hotel residence, restaurant, café, concept store, material library, and work and event space. Uniting work, hospitality, and design it is an oasis meant for interaction, connection, and artistic expression. The goal and philosophy of this unique concept is in the name. Deriving from the Latin phrase “Ab Uno Disce Omnes,” meaning “from on, learn all,” The Audo is based upon “the belief that knowledge-sharing drives creativity, builds healthier communities, and can lead to higher quality work.”

The founder of The Audo, Bjarne Hansen, former CEO and founder of the renowned interior brand MENU, had a vision of creating a home for international creative souls to collaborate and inspire each other. “Blurring the lines between home life and work, uniting design, business, and community in one innovative space that is alive and under constant renewal, The Audo as a concept is a unique space to experience elements of our built environment as a whole,” Bjarne says. “Globally, I hope we can contribute to new ways of thinking about blending work, life, and travel.” The inspiring space opened last spring and was bound to be a great success.

The Audo concept breathes creativity, playfulness, and elegance which called for a stirring design aesthetic. Who better to call upon than the Danish design studio Norm Architects as principal architects, and Nathan Williams, co-founder of Kinfolk magazine, as creative director. Lead architect Jonas Bjerre-Poulson and Peter Eland completed a full-scale renovation of the gorgeous 1918 building which is one of the oldest in the area. The designers wanted to celebrate the historic character of the building by preserving the Neo-Baroque façade and at the same time tell a contemporary story on the inside, which houses spaces shrouded in earthy tones and a timeless aesthetic. The interiors are filled with decorations and items by talented friends and the brand’s partners which include some of the world’s most renowned design, interior, and lifestyle brands. The warm earthy tones make for a homely feel while the exciting furniture and objects de art ensure an elegant and stylish Scandinavian aesthetic. Celebrating design, history, and community, The Audo is the perfect haven where creativity and collaborations can flourish.
